THE Southern Highlands provincial assembly has called
on the national Government to rethink its decision and re-allocate the
K500,000 local level government service improvement program (LLGSIP)
funding.
In a provincial assembly resolution last week, the
members of the assembly consisting of members of parliament and LLG
presidents resolved that the recent cut in the 2015 National Budget
appropriations of K500,000 LLGSIP to K100,000 must be reinstated as it
was a mistake by the Government.
The presidents who would be affected by the budget
cut said the decision of the government was unacceptable and a slap in
the faces of the LLGs who have been mandated to make up the third tier
government, a power sharing system that was working effectively in the
country.
They said the LLGSIP of the O’Neill-Dion Government
was a blessing for the little people as the funds had impacted the lives
of the people since its introduction in 2013.
They said the LLGSIP policy and other such policies
of the government like the free health and free education had touched
the hearts of the people.
They called on the Prime Minister not to be misled as
the LLGSIP was a policy that truly impacted the lives of the little
people.
