Blackouts are Wabag’s ‘best friend’

 Post Courier.

ENGA’s booming Wabag town is experiencing one of its worst man-made disasters of our time — chronic power and water blackouts — posing real threat to its growth potential.
Worse still, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)’s Radio Enga was forced to go off air for some time now due to aging electrical settings in the building, adding on communication and information black out on to the list of these man-made disasters in the province.

Neither the PNG Power Ltd nor the Water PNG Ltd Wabag offices would want to talk about the situation, forcing the growing consumer population into acceptance and adaptation.
But for one entrepreneurial mama, Maggie Pilyo (pictured), she could not stand back and watch her guests at the family-owned My Kids Inn motel suffer unnecessarily at the hands of service providers.

Last month, she went ahead and bought a diesel operated generator set for the inn primarily to prove her determination and strength against the weak-in-mind.
“It’s about a year now that we the residents and businesses in Wabag town are suffering from continuous power and water black outs. It’s really chronic that it cost so much on my refrigerated foods that are always going rotten and discomfort for my guests in terms of shower and room sanitation. I had no other option but to buy a new gen set for my small business after PNG Power and Water PNG alike remain tight-lipped sitting ducks on their own shit,” Mama Maggie recapped.
Member for Wabag Robert Sandan Ganim also wrote a letter to PNG Power Ltd manager stating his anger over the matter and asking for some explanation.
