Asaro opens new K15m hospital

THE people of Asaro Valley in the Daulo district of Eastern Highlands are fortunate to have a new hospital in their area, thanks to the South Korean government.
The new facilities were opened by South Korean ambassador to PNG Kim Seong Choon and Health Minister Michael Malabag last Friday.
The K15 million hospital replaces the ageing Asaro Rural Health Centre and was handed over as a gift from the people of South Korea through donor agency, Korean International Cooperation Agency (Koica), for the people of Asaro and Daulo.
Kim said the facilities, similar to the hospital donated to the people of Kwikila in the Abau district, Central, would cater for medical, clinical and other basic health and patient care services.
He said the people of South Korea, through a partnership programme, would maintain bilateral relations with the people of Asaro and PNG.
“We are proud to establish and achieve something that is vital to the people of Asaro and Eastern Highlands, something that will in the long run save lives and provide services to the people that are in need,” Kim said.
Governor Julie Soso thanked Kim and Koica for the generous donation. Soso and provincial administrator Solomon Tato presented K200,000 for the hospital’s operations.
