Road network a priority for Wingti

By RAMCY WAMA

THE Western Highlands Provincial Government’s focus on prioritising road network development and maintenance in the province for the next five years will begin with the upgrading and sealing of the Kagamuga to Mount Hagen road.
Construction work will commence soon with an initial allocation of K1 million by the Western Highlands Provincial government and Governor, Paias Wingti in Mt Hagen recently.
This move is seen as consistent with Mr Wingti’s election focus on prioritising development and maintenance of road infrastructure, improving health and education indicators, a reinvigorated agriculture sector and maintenance of law and order in the province.
Provincial finance chairman Nathan Wantape made this observation when commending Mr Wingti for taking a positive step in delivering the services that he had promised during elections.
“We (PEC) approved K1m for the Kagamuga-Mount Hagen road to show that Mr Wingti is in the business of delivering services that he had promised,” Mr Wantape said.
He said major construction works for all roads in the province would begin later this year and would continue for the next five years.
He added that construction works in the province would follow approved national tender procedures and awarding of projects would be made to reputable construction companies in the country.
“We want quality work on our roads, thus the construction of the roads will be given to reputable companies to upgrade and seal the roads,” Mr Wantape said.
