48 hours is the time frame that has been given to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to step down from the office of the Prime Minister or else a civil disobedience or stop work will take place by workers from the Aviation industry, Maritime industry, Telecommunications, schools and the transport sector in Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen.
This was made known today by group of senior professionals representing different industries in the country.
Speaking on behalf of the professional citizens was lawyer Mr Moses Murray who said the 48 hours deadline will start by 12 midnight tonight and ends by Tuesday midnight and within that time frame, they expect the Prime Minister to step down and subject himself to the rule of law.
“If the Prime Minister does not step down within the 48 hours given, then he can expect all major sectors and industries in the country to stop work by Wednesday morning”
“The Prime Minster has bluntly turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to issues not only on the current crises but also on a number of serious allegations levelled against him which are still outstanding” said Mr Murray.
Meanwhile Captain James Makop from the Aviation Industry said all planes will be grounded and there won’t any flights flying in and out of Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen if the Prime Minister does not take this call seriously.
“I’m speaking on behalf of the Aviation industry but I also urge teachers to stop work because your teachings will go to waste if we have a uncertain tomorrow and students should not go to school too because your future does not seem promising when you country is in crises”
Captain Makop called on the working class people to have quiet protest by not going to work on Wednesday.
“We don’t expect any protest on the streets or civil unrest but we just want people to quietly protest in silence by not going to work on Wednesday if the Prime Minister does not abide by the rule of law and refuses resign as the Prime Minister” said Captain Makop.
