Authorities say Human Trafficking is
virtually an unknown crime in Papua New Guinea but it exists.
A Public Awareness Campaign on this is being
organized at the University of Papua New Guinea on Monday.
Labeled "1 day against Human Trafficking",
the Department of Justice, Attorney General and Migration want the
public to be aware of the existence of Human Trafficking.
About one million people fall victim each
year. They are made to cross borders to become cheap labour, forced into
prostitution, domestic slavery, among others.
In Papua New Guinea, people are either
forced into the country or taken from rural areas to towns and cities as
slaves.
