Remote school gets new administration building

National,
A PRIMARY school in a remote area of Southern Highlands now has a new administration building valued at around K200,000.
The Milwerip Primary School building was funded by the provincial government.
Contractor Pastor David James handed the keys to the building and the acquittal report detailing how the money was spent to provincial projects coordinator Patrick Tombos last Thursday.
James challenged all other contractors who had received substantial amounts of taxpayer funds for various projects to produce acquittals for purposes of transparency.
He also thanked the people in the area for shouldering the building materials down the mountain, across a rope bridge over the Lai River and up to the school.
Receiving the keys to the new building and the acquittal report, Tombos praised the teachers and people for their sacrifice and commitment to deliver important services including education.
“The fine example of community support and sacrifice to deliver services in Milwerip should be followed by people in other parts of the province,” he said.
The new administration has staff offices, internet connectivity, typing and photocopying services as well a conference area.
Milwerip is a level four government agency school with 10 teachers and more than 350 students.
