AROUND 600 teachers in Hela will be receiving their leave fares from this week, according to provincial education adviser Joanne Puname.
She confirmed that funds for the teachers’ leave fares in Hela were finally made available last week.
Puname said despite teachers receiving their entitlements late, officers had been working hard to get their entitlements.
“The teachers will be going through a thorough screening process before everything is finalised by Friday,” she said.
“I’d like to extend my thanks to our Governor and the administrator for working with us and making funds available for these teachers.
“With the help of our provincial treasurer and the leave fares committee, our teachers will be paid.”
Finance Minister James Marape this week blamed the delay in the payment of leave fares on the Education Department for failing to secure funding before the close of accounts at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, Puname said they would conduct the Training of Trainers programme for the Standard-Based Curriculum for Elementary Schools.
She confirmed receiving materials for the training. She said officers from the Curriculum Development and Assessment Division would join them this week to initiate the training.
“In my view, there is no major change in the curriculum. The context is new every time we shift to a new curriculum. But the context delivery is just the same,” she said.
