Five Bangladesh nationals in Port Moresby were apprehended by the Task Force team after a raid into Hanuabada village over human smuggling.
The raid was conducted yesterday and three men were apprehended. The fourth man was ill and lying down helpless on the floor in a room.
Another Bangladeshi National who claims to be a citizen is alleged to have smuggled the four men into the country.
The suspects say they pay thirty thousand kina each to a man named Mamhud to come into the country and start up a supermarket business.
However, their dreams were shattered when they arrived and were left to live in the slums for the last six months at Hanuabada village in the Central Province.
The task force team said the Mamhud enterprise is a ghost business and investigations are continuing. However, Mamhud said this is not true.
The task force team said intelligence report indicates the existence of various human smuggling rackets in the country.
The team said with news of the boom in the national economy with the likes of the multibillion kina PNG LNG project come 2014; many are keen to rip the benefits and are coming into the country through illegal means.
Members of the task force team comprised of immigration and police intelligence officers.
They described this as a professional human smuggling activity.
