K5mil to probe Simbu trouble stretch

A geotechnical investigation will be carried out along the Simbu length of the Highlands Highway, where landslips frequently occur.

K5 million has been put aside by the Government for the scientific study to be carried out and completed before June.

According to www.geogroup.co.za , geotechnical investigations are performed to obtain data on physical characteristics of soil/rock around a site to design earthworks and proposed structures, or to support the repair of distressed earthworks/structures caused by subsurface issues.

It is understood data collected from the investigation will be used for the design and construction of a resilient road structure to prevent further landslips affecting roads.

It is also understood financing of the project will be under a public-private partnership.
