Mori: Road is a priority

By Mal Taime
Vice Minister for Mining and MP for Chuave Wera Mori was in his electorate to open the sealed Chuave/Movi road at Pira Primary School in the Siane LLG of Chuave district, Simbu Province on Tuesday.
A bumper crowd packed Pira Primary School to witness the opening of the road funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and an initiative of Mr Mori.
Essential government services with other developments will reach the people if there is a proper road network system in place, Mr Mori said. The ceremony coincided with the independence celebrations of the country.
Chuave has three local level governments, last year the independence celebration was held at Elimbari and this year at Siane LLG, Chuave will host next year’s celebrations.
“We can only talk about receiving other basice government services if there is a proper road network in place otherwise people will continue to suffer so priority must be given to roads,” Mr Mori said.
Some prominent businessmen in Chuave commended Mr Mori for giving priority to roads and pledged to donate 10 diesel drums each. Mr Mori said as the MP for Chuave, he would play a vital role to captain the district positively to another level.
He said he has made a presentation to ADB to secure funds to link Movi to Ungai in the Eastern Highlands Province and has put K250, 000 for counterpart funding.
Mr Mori hinted that he would continue to work and ADB would intervene later. Former National Planning Secretary Peter Kora said this particular road may become the exit road for Highlands Highway
