Namah: I did it for the people

Following criticisms for the actions of Deputy Prime Minister and PNG Party leader Belden Namah for the arrest of Chief Justice, Mr Namah said his actions were only for the good of the people.
“If I didn’t do it, no one would…It doesn’t mean that because the constitution was not changed before, that we cannot change it now.
Mr Namah was speaking during the endorsement of his Party candidates in Kundiawa yesterday.
“The judiciary was seriously compromised. No judge in any country presides over his own case. This has not happened once but more than once.
He (CJ) also restrained the police personnel from conducting their constitutional duties which is not right.
The judiciary has been partial and it was only right for me to do what I did and stand up against corruption which has reached the judicial arm of the government”, Mr Namah said.
Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS and deputy Party leader Jamie Maxtone-Graham responded in support of Mr Namah’s statement and further stated that the Chief Justice has let the judiciary down and allowed his political interest to interfere with his decisions which were clearly preconceived when he pronounced the Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare as the legitimate Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea late last month. He said that judges are mere human beings just like us who are prone to corruption.
