The Western Highlands Governor Paias Wingti has donated K250, 000 to the SIKE Association in the Lower Kaguel area, Tambul-Nebilyer District, Western Highlands Province.
At the association launching at Kiripia Station, the Governor also donated a back-hoe and a portable sawmill to the association.
“SIKE” stands for Sipaka-Kepaka tribes comprised of six council wards. The Governor also donated six Lucas Mills each to other neighbouring tribes in the Lower Kaguel area. The other tribes who received a portable sawmill each are: Engwal tribe, Mondika-Gaulga tribes, Peraka tribe, Kaika tribe, Upugla-Takopoka tribes and Komogla-Panimbe tribes.
Other contributions were made to the newly established association. They are from a Western Highlands businessman Stanley Phil who gave K5, 000, Gabriel Andandi, businessman and managing director of Norman Finance Limited donated K2, 000, principal Lawyer for Mawa Lawyers Paul Mawa donated K5, 000 and a local company Makera Construction Limited gave K5, 000.
SIKE Association chairman Alex Mana Rangip thanked the Governor and those individuals who contributed. “The association is established to serve the welfare of the Kepaka and Sipaka tribes and surrounding communities in the Lower Kaguel area,” Mr Rangip said. “It will be serving the association member tribes as well as others in terms of education, health and better road conditions,” he added.
