Local youths in Mt. Hagen who are engaged in the informal sector have called on the National Government to consider them in the SME participation.
Local youth leader Daniel Naiko said
if the Government is making businesses available for locals, they should
consider the informal sector too.
“We used to deal with mobile phones
and accessories with Digicel dealers to sell them on the streets. The
Government can help us to get some easy loans and buy more phones and sell
them,” he added.
“When we want to sell phones, city
authorities move us away and we need to make money for ourselves and our needs.
Where can we go when they send us away,” Mr. Naiko said.
The local youths from all over the
highlands make ends meet by selling Digicel mobile phones at the retail price
on the streets.
