Govnment must Support PNG Made Goods

Local craftsman struggles to sell his produce

A local man from Mendi, Southern Highlands Province struggles to sell his produce at Mount Hagen City.
Rana Pania, 62, from Ungumap tribe of Mendi said he produces baskets of all sizes, bows and arrows, different size trays and traditional axes and wants to sell them at Mount Hagen City but does not get not many customers for his produce.
“I know people need my products but I cannot reach people who will buy them. And that is my struggle,” he said.
“Traditional axes are going on for sale at K100, baskets with lids on are for K200 each, bows and arrows are K20 and trays are at K100. I think these prices are good for people who need an alternative basket locally made,” he added.
Rana has been producing those products for a very long time and is experienced enough to produce on orders for clients.
