SHP plans inventory of all infrastructure

By JEFFREY ELAPA
THE Southern Highlands provincial government for the first time has an inventory of all provincial government infrastructures in the province, provincial works Chairman Robert Dobo said.
Speaking during the recent provincial assembly meeting in Mendi, Mr Dobo said that for the first time the provincial has a fully registry of all its infrastructures to help the provincial government with its development initiatives and to keep a good record of the facilities.
He said with the registry, the provincial government would know the numbers of provincial, district and provincial roads in the province, airstrips, bridges, schools, aidposts, health centres and other infrastructures.
Mr Dobo said the registry also includes the infrastructures already funded and funding agency like the ABD funded roads in the province, the progress and the need to allocate funding to improve the infrastructures and the kilometres and quality of the infrastructures before and after funding.
He said with good governance and stability in place the province was on road to progress and it was important to keep records of assets like infrastructure, properties and land the provincial government has.
He said with the provincial government’s initiative to establish an infrastructure data base, the records can be accessible by many people, including donor agencies.
He said in the past the provincial government was working in isolation with any proper records of its assets like the infrastructure, making planning more difficult.
But under the leadership of Governor William Powi, things were starting to come in perspective with assistance of leadership provided by the members of the provincial executive council, something the people of the province need to embrace, Mr Dobo said.
He said for instance, the successful completion of the inventory system was a result of political will and leadership provided and working closely with the public service machinery to make sure things are done correctly.
He thanked Governor Powi for empowering the provincial administration to take full control of the respective divisions and function and provide the leadership to make a difference for the benefit of the people.
He said he was impress many of the roads have been fully maintained with continuous funding while several others were under constructions like most of the missing link like the Kutubu-Bosave road, the Nipa Kongu road, Wiru road, Erave Marorogo roads and many more.
