PM shows pride at progress in Mendi

PNG Loop
Prime Minister Peter O’Neill has applauded economic progress taking place in Southern Highlands capital Mendi that is creating more employment and business opportunities.
He said this improvement had come about through ongoing commitment from all levels of government to create the right economic conditions, a significant improvement in law and order and hard work from  business.
PM O’Neill told thousands of people around Mendi that  now was the best time for people to start their own small businesses.
“Business men and women are rising in this country,” he said.
“I understand it is not easy, and Government cannot provide all the answers, but you can do it and we can do it.”
The Prime Minister said that while not everyone can go to university, this should not stop people from starting their own small business and working hard to create success.
“Through discipline and hard work small businesses can grow and there are many stories of outstanding Papua New Guineans who have done well in their business.
“They start small and become big businesses in our country.
“Starting a business and making it a success requires a lot of discipline and sacrifice if they want to build their business.”
PM O’Neill said he wanted to see the ongoing development continue in Mendi town as an example for the nation.
“Mendi is Changing!” he said.
“More businesses are coming to Mendi which means more people will come and more people will stay in the hotels and guest houses.
“Work together to make the place attractive for more tourists to come and business to come to Mendi.”
The Prime Minister made the comments while opening the Mendi Travelers Inn on April 10, in Mendi, Southern Highlands.
He was accompanied by Minister for Finance James Marape, Minister for Transport, Works and Implementation Francis Awesa, and Southern Highlands Governor William Powi.
