The recent announcement by the government to focus on Agriculture in the country has rejuvenated the Casava project in the Central Province.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Central province government and Korean Company Changhae Engineering.
The Project will move into downstream processing and will see the erecting of a multi kina Starch plant and an Ethanol plant.
All central province leaders except the Kairuku Hiri MP were seen rubbing shoulders with the Korean delegation. The government will negotiate with the company for the provincial government to have a bigger slice of the Casava business.
Member for Rigo and minister for Transport Ano Pala say this time around the MOU will provide for Central Province to participate in the project.
Under the MOU the focus will be on an out-growers program which the former arrangements did not focus wholly on. This will allow individuals within the district to become more involved and be active participants through sourcing the nucleus estate with raw materials.
The Governor for Central Province says leadership is paramount to move projects of such magnitude.
Sir Puka Temu who was formerly the Agricultural minister in the former government that spearheaded the Cassava project, confirmed Abau’s participation in allocating land for sourcing the project.
He further echoed the government’s recent move to support agriculture.
CEO of Changhae Enegeering Doo Pyo Chung said the company in the past concentrated on their own efforts however now is looking to involve the people and the government and share their technology.
A feasibility study is underway to see the possibility of also setting up a shipping dock for exporting their end products.
