The government is expected to come down hard on those behind the forced eviction of tenants of the Waigani Hostel in Port Moresby over the weekend.
The hostel, owned by the National Housing Corporation is believed to have been sold out.
Housing Corporation officers, police and security guards went to the hostel and forced tenants out, despite an announcement earlier by the Prime Minister against eviction.

Mr. O’Neill returned said he had summoned both the housing and the police minister on the Waigani hostel eviction. Earlier, the Prime Minister stopped the exercise when it was about to take place. However, the instruction was defied.
Hundreds of tenants were forced out of their rooms. Many got out as quickly as they could in fear of heavy handed action from the intimidating officers.
