Water Is Life

Today @ 38 years of independence Papua New Guineans are faced with inadequate supply of potable water in both urban and rural areas. Our urban water system is antiquated and saddled with frequent breakdowns in supply and needs serious investment. Many rural communities have no access to potable water at all.

I advice the government to relook and implement a strengthened National Water Policy, which will greatly improve supply, hygiene and sanitation. This should be the goal of our current Government to ensure that every Papua New Guinean has access to potable water. The Government should continue the program of HON Micheal Malabag , which undertook major water systems improvements of Moresby North West (MNW), and task every Member for Parliament to improve the water systems in their locality.

To improve further the supply of water, The Government should build more urban water systems and sink in at least 9,000 new boreholes across rural parts of PNG. This Project could be partnered with USAID, AusAid and World Vision as this project falls under their funding polices.

Construct more dams along some of our major rivers, build Modernized water treatment plants in the lower Coastal Province’s, Create Three Man made dam’s in the Highlands Regain that tap water source from major Water Falls, this Project should be undertaken by Stake holders of LNG Enterprise, ensure more of us in the Highlands have access to potable water. Ensure that the water sector ( Eda Ranu) gets the investment it needs, by dramatically cutting down on non-revenue water losses, and empowering Eda Ranu to oversee effectively the water delivery system in the country to ensure that we get value for money.
