Government plans for affordable health treatment for all

Health Minister Michael Malabag says the government wants to make medical care currently, being sought overseas, cheap and available in the country.
But he warns this won’t happen as soon as many would like. It comes amidst calls to improve Lae’s Angau Hospital to international standards.
In recent months the government and the health minister have come under fire for not acting on a sixty four million kina designed proposal for Lae’s Angau Hospital.
The Angau Hospital’s management is determined to have the hospital designed to cater for Papua New Guinea’s growing needs and to make international standard health care available in Lae.
But in an interview health minister Michael Malabag said the designed proposal won’t get the nod just yet.

In the same breath Malabag said the government is working on rehabilitating four major hospitals including Angau, but much of the funding will have to come from next year’s budget.
He has also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making health care currently being sort overseas available in the country.
As the debate over health care continues, PNG’s health statistics continue to plummet. Those who have the money will continue to seek medical treatment overseas.
