Sir Michael assembles PEC

EAST Sepik Governor Sir Michael Somare convened the first Provincial Executive Council meeting on Tuesday, 18 September for this parliamentary term.
Sir Michael said that there was a lot of work to be done in the province and he appealed to public servants to do their part in providing accurate information to the Provincial Executive Council (PEC) during meetings so that informed decisions can be made in the best interest of the people of East Sepik.
He said, “I note that the province has a corporate plan (2009 to 2012) and an integrated development plan (2011 – 2015).
“I commend the public service under the previous Governor, Mr Wararu and the administrator, Mr Samson Torovi for setting themselves these milestones in the province and it is equally important that they implement the plans that they have laid for themselves.
“As the term suggests, public servants are here to serve the public and I call on Mr Torovi to provide strong leadership as the administrator in ensuring that while public servants are working in this province, they are serving the people of East Sepik and not using the common excuse of reporting to Waigani.
“There is no point reporting to Waigani if no evidence of work is being seen in this province.
“I would strongly suggest that public servants who use the excuse of reporting to Waigani, should go to Port Moresby so we can get other public servants that are committed to the development of East Sepik to work with Mr Torovi and his administration in the interest of the people of East Sepik,” said Sir Michael.
Meanwhile Sir Michael advised the public that while his office is still being renovated, his staff will not be able to deal with personal requests until further notice.
