Landowners on a remote island in Papua New Guinea have shut down a mine belonging to Australia's biggest goldminer Newcrest.

Newcrest says it is meeting with the landowners as well as representatives from the local, provincial and national governments to resolve the dispute.
Shares in the company were down about 3 per cent during Tuesday's trad
