The people of Enga have expressed
their dissatisfaction over the absence of the five Members of Parliament (MP)
during the Australian High Commission visit to Enga.
Community representative and
councillor Nanga Lyonai said that such important occasions opened doors
for the people of Enga so the MPs should all be there in the province.
“It’s one man’s job to bring the
high profile people to such a remote place so we should all be glad,” Lyonai
said.
The political leaders in Enga should
leave their differences behind because “it concerns only them and not us, ” he
said.
High Commissioner Deborah Stokes was
in Enga to launch the Enga sixth chapter, PNG-Australia Alumni Association this
week.
It is understood that the Australian
High Commission was not there to launch the other fifth chapters except for the
Enga one.
“Governor of Enga Peter Ipatas has
laid the foundation for the Enga people to access Australia and not for his own
tribesmen,” the councillor said.
Lyonai said that the Australian
government had committed many tangible benefits, especially in the education,
health and law and justice sectors throughout the five districts in the
province.
Ipatas also blasted his colleagues
for not showing any support.
He said that the MPs should show
some courtesy of respect and be there in the province to welcome such high
profile people.
Ipatas thanked his Provincial
Assembly members, the provincial administrator Dr Samson Amean, the
organising committee, the police and the people of Enga for their undying
support.
