A BULL and two cows have been airlifted to remote Marawaka, Eastern Highlands, as part of a women’s cattle farming project.
Provincial livestock officer Farapo Fareho loaded the three cattle onto an aircraft operated by North Coast Aviation.
Marawaka is in the Obura-Wonenara district of Eastern Highlands.
Fareho said the cattle were for the Mala Women’s Group cattle project.
Andrew Saki of Northern Coast Aviation said the cattle arrived safely in Marawaka.
Fareho said he was happy to help women in rural areas such as Marawaka go into cattle farming “because there is fresh water and grass in such places” for the cattle to use.
Mala Women’s Group president Uma Peter said they were helped by the Eastern Highlands Women’s Credit Scheme funded by Governor Julie Soso.
“We got K10,000 and bought the cattle from the livestock division of the provincial department of agriculture and livestock,” she said.
“I thank Fareho for using his expertise in handling the cows to help us fly them to Marawaka.”
She thanked North Coast Aviation for airlifting the cattle to Marawaka.
Fareho airlifted cattle to Karimu in Simbu twice for a community group in 2011.
