MP announces PM’s Road Program

THE National Executive Council is close to finalising a new infrastructure policy that will see the full funding of two new district (rural) roads each year by the National Government starting in 2014.
Works and Implementation Minister, Francis Awesa revealed this when officiating at the ground breaking ceremony of the Wabag town roads sealing project in Wabag town on Friday.
 
According to the Minister, each provincial government will nominate the names of two rural roads of their choice to the Ministry and Department of Works for funding each year.
This program will be known as the Prime Minister’s road program.
He gave no further details.
Minister Awesa was responding to an appeal by Wabag Open MP, Robert Sandan Ganim who wanted the national government to give more attention and assistance to remote places like Maramuni in his electorate where there is no road and only access is through one flight a week by air.
 
The Wabag town road sealing project will cost around K23 million and covering around 12 kilometres of work in different parts of town such as at Irelya, the home of the new Enga Teachers College, Sopas hospital and Kopen Secondary school, which work will begin in three weeks’ time at the cost of K3 million.
Wabag Rural LLG President, Roy Kipalan commended the Wabag MP and Enga Governor for their collaborated effort in beginning the 2013 year of implementation on the right note for the good of the people of Enga.
Governor, Peter Ipatas later presented a cheque of K98,000 to the Contractor, NC Civil Works Ltd for survey and feasibility studies.
