The High Commissioner of India to PNG, Dr A M
Gondane last month visited Koge village in Simbu Province for the commissioning
of portable sawmills and its accessories.
The accessories are for the Topma housing project, which is located at Koge village in the Simbu Province.
The Government of India has funded the project under its Pacific initiative forum development assistance scheme.
Dr Gondane and his team were treated to a rousing traditional welcome by the community.
Dancing groups from Koge and other neighbouring villages organised songs and dance to entertain the visting officials to the village.
The high commissioner assured the gathering of around 5,000 people that this small development assistance was only the beginning of more support funding for future projects in the country.
Dr Gondane said if there were other projects proposed or recommended, the Government of India would be more than happy to finance them as a way of assisting in community development.
He said this was as long as the crtierias and other details of the proposed projects were met and to the satisfaction of the Indian Government.
The commissioning was attended by local MPs, officials, Non Government Oorganisation representatives and community leaders.
The locals thanked the Government of India for this assistance and stated that they would recommend some other proposals for financing.
