Candidates contesting the Mt Hagen Rural LLG failed election are asked to stay out of the Wamp Nga group of companies as it is a multi million kina operation controlled by experts.
The chairman of Wamp Nga, Wai Rapa, said this while calling on his political rivals that they should concentrate on their political careers and not interfere with the operations of Wamp Nga.
Mr Rapa said the role of the chairman, who is automatically the president of Mt Hagen Rural LLG, is basically as an overseer and not a working position.
“We as politicians must concentrate on how we will serve our people through our established government systems and primarily represent the people who have elected us adequately,” Mr Rapa said.
Mr Rapa who is also the deputy governor for WHP said it is not proper for politicians or candidates of the failed election for that matter to fight over the chairmanship of Wamp Nga Group of companies.
“These candidates’ interest in Wamp Nga shows the people of Western Highlands province and especially the three share holding LLGs of Wamp Nga that their interest is in the company and not the people,” Mr Rapa said.
“The company is for the people of Negilye, Anglimp and Hagen Rural LLGs and no individual from these areas should try to benefit.”
Mr Rapa, who said he is still the president of Hagen Rural LLG until a proper election, said he was accused by candidates before the LLG elections for allegations of misuse.
“But so far I have not been arrested or taken to court over the allegations yet,” he said.
“Now these same people are fighting for the company’s chairmanship which is very suspicious and people are closely watching them.”
Mr Rapa said politics and the business arm of the three LLGs must not interfere with each other.
Meanwhile, the situation between the two parties is still tense and Mt Hagen market is still closed.
