EX-SHP govt members seek help

Story By Post Courier

FORMER Southern Highlands Provincial Assembly members are seeking Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s approval to have their outstanding entitlements settled and paid.
Former assembly member for Awi Pori constituency in Tari-Pori District, Hela Province, Hibson Ambulu on behalf of his colleagues urged Mr O’Neill for his mercy to
help settle the long-standing entitlements.

Mr Ambulu said their case was different from other provinces where theirs was the subject of a court order that they successfully obtained and directed by the office of the Justice and Attorney General.
He said the case reference was originating summons number 32 of 2010 Paka Kili and others verses Gabriel Yer and others where a certificate of judgement for payment was granted in 2011.
The court ordered the State to pay 61 former provincial assembly members their entitlements totalling K33, 931, 371. 71 in 2011 which were still outstanding.
He said some of the members had passed away and the quin was short for the oldies to pass on while waiting for their entitlements which was rectified through the courts for their benefit.
He said some of the figures like Koke Itua, Joe Walu Kuna, Yangtin Koroba, Albert Mokai, Ibne Kor, Paielo Elo, Mano Yako, Paka Kili, Yawale Kulu and many more were the founders who set the platform for prosperity and growth in yester olden days.

Mr Ambulu said they were now seeking PM’s mercy to endorse the certificate of judgement for payment to honour the National Court Order, granted by Deputy Chief Judge Justice Gibbs Salika.
He explained that the SHP assembly members’ case was not the one regarding the transitional phase when the reform took place to displace the provincial members.
The National Court matter was instigated prior to the separation of the two new provinces.
He said all those assembly
members alive were waiting for the payment before they passed on and were asking for Mr O’Neill’s mercy to sign the certificate of judgement
for them to receive their entitlements.
