Chairman calls for LLG polls as scheduled

Regional News in the Highlands   :

THE deferral of the Local Level Government Elections will have to come from the Electoral Commission and not at the people’s will.

This is because only the PNGEC has the power and mandate to defer any elections.
Tari Airport Chairman Benson Angobe has appealed to the people of PNG and specifically in the Highlands Region who are pushing for the deferral of the Local Level Government Elections which are coming up mid this year not to do that because Hela is ready including other coastal areas.
Mr Angobe said that the people of PNG should be warned not to try and derail or delay the LLG elections which is scheduled to take place by mid this year.

He said the people of Hela Province were ready to participate in the LLG elections and supported the call by the PNGEC to carry out the elections of the LLGs heads.
Mangobe said it would be unfair for intending candicates who have already gathered resources in preparation for these LLG elections.

“People have already thrown their resources in preparation for these LLG elections and for someone to come out and call for a deferral will only affect the operations.
The onus is on PNGEC as they have handled the major elections and using the same electoral roll so we should not jeopardise their dates of going into polls.
We Hela people are ready so let’s go for elections,” he said.
