THE election petition dispute in the Moresby North-East electorate is set to go for a full trial in April next year.
Judge heading election petition cases, Justice Colin Makail fixed the trial date yesterday during a pre-trial conference hearing at the Waigani National Court.
Justice Makail directed that the trial will commence of April 15, 2013 and should conclude within a 10 day period.
The election petition was initially filed by close runner-up John Kaupa against
current Moresby North-East MP Labi Amaiu.
Mr Kaupa alleged that some 12 boxes from the Six mile, Eight mile and Nine mile area were regarded as disputed boxes and were not counted during the counting period.
He alleged that the boxes contained majority of his votes and were wrongly disputed during the counting. He alleged that the omission of those boxes affected the results and therefore wants the court to order the counting of these disputed boxes.
Meanwhile, the National Court will soon vacate briefly for the Christmas break and will officially reopen early next year for the 2013 legal year.
