Eda Ranu not delivering to city residents - Parkop

 On Friday 26th October, 2012

Eda Ranu’s acting Board Chairman Haoda Rogea  announced that Port Moresby city’s water supplier is now able to reach communities that do not have access to a reliable water supply by delivering tangible development services through the Eda Ranu Foundation. Mr Rogea made the announcement this week, adding that the foundation is an initiative of the Eda Ranu Board and Management, aimed at delivering basic services in terms of health and education, particularly to surrounding communities of Port Moresby and important stakeholders. “The foundation should benefit stakeholders such as landowners or resource owners and surrounding communities of the nation’s capital and through it, we’re looking at delivering services to communities we cannot bring water services to” he said. And while thanking the Independent Public Business Corporation (IPBC) for endorsing the foundation, he added that Eda Ranu was grateful for the endorsement of the foundation and pledged the company’s continued partnership with other stakeholders such as the Central Provincial government, and the national government. The newly established organization is in line with the national government’s Medium Term Development Strategy (MTDS) in achieving Vision 2050 by alleviating poverty to the most disadvantaged populations in the peripheries of the nation’s capital as well as the Greater Port Moresby Policy approved by the Board early this year. The policy is about improving water and sanitation services outside the NCD boundary, particularly the Motu Koitabu people on whose land the city stands and the Koiari on whose land the water is sourced. The foundation will be registered and launched in December this year. The Board also congratulated the Eda Ranu Dobo Warriors for winning this year’s premiership in the Port Moresby Rugby league competition. “As a team from the resource owner’s area, we are very happy in supporting them through sports and are proud of their achievement and we will continue to support Eda Ranu Dobo Warriors in the 2013 season”, said chairman Rogea.

 "But yet "

Water is essential for survival yet NCD Governor Powes Parkop is concerned that Eda Ranu has not delivered to the city residents and wants the functions transferred back to NCDC.
Twenty years ago, an agreement of Transfer was signed with JC-KRTA Consulting group from Malaysia with the idea for this company to invest in Port Moresby, build Eda Ranu’s capacity to improve their service and then transfer it back to NCDC.
But it has not happened.
