PROVINCIAL Police Commander in Chimbu has heaps of praise for the Provincial Administrator and the Election manager for their kind assistance in ensuring a peaceful election in his province.
Superintendent
Augustine Wampe said the Provincial Administrator Joe Kundar Naur and
the Provincial Election Manager Steven Gore Kaupa for their help
particularly in logistical support to ensure a peaceful election.
He said their
awareness by a combine effort from police, Electoral Commission and the
Papua New Guinea Defence Force in Chimbu has seen a peaceful election.
It has helped them a lot and they got the election underway.
Supt Wampe said other stakeholders like the church and youth groups also helped them spreading the message of safe elections.
He also had
the opportunity to thank the police and other security personnel from
outside of his province, providing security during the polling and
responding to call outs in the province.
He also appreciated voters in the province for choosing their leaders cordially.
He said one
of the contributing factors of safe election in the province is that the
people were well aware of the election process as there were several
bye-elections using the new voting system (LPV) in the province.
Meanwhile, voting in some parts of the electorates were done on Monday.
The
provincial police chief Wampe said places like Kebai in the
Sinasina/Yongomugl Electorate and some parts of Karamui/ Nomane were
held today. The insertion of polling securities and personnel and ballot
boxes and papers were distributed into Kebai was late on Sunday while
there were some disturbances in Karamui/Nomane on and postponed to the
next day.
Extraction of
polling teams and ballot boxes and papers were done on Sunday by roads
in areas where there were road links but for those that were
inaccessible by road, it was airlifted and locked them in the containers
at Kundiawa police station.
Counting is expected to commence before the end of the week.
