Victim’s husband wants justice for rape suspect

Post Courior
A concern husband of a alleged rape victim has appealed to police in Banz, Jiwaka Province to arrest the suspect involved in the alleged kidnap and rape of his wife.
The husband Michael Tee Pau claimed that he had reported the incident with his victim wife (named) to police but police had been delaying the arrest of the suspect.
Mr Pau said the co-accused a woman was arrested but was released a few days later and the main suspect was still on the run and yet to be arrested.
He claimed that although the suspect was known to police, the police had failed to execute arrest.
He said the rape incident occurred between July 13, 2015 and July 14, 2015 and despite numerous calls for the suspects’ arrest, there was no arrest so far.
“I want to appeal to the Provincial Police Commander to have the suspect arrested and brought in for questioning because the offence committed was serious and the continued delay was not helping,” Mr Pau said.
Local councillor of Kimil ward one in Banz LLG, David Kumb, also appealed to police to enforce their duties and bring the suspect to justice.
He said the continued delay could spark other tribal conflicts if the custodian of law failed to do what was right by arresting the suspect when complaint was laid.
“In the Highlands, tribal fights occur over women and land and that is why I would like to support the husband of the victim and call on the police to have the suspect arrested and face justice,” Mr Kumb added.
The victim’s husband said it was nearing the fourth week and if police failed to execute arrest, he would pursue National Court proceedings and seek appropriate orders for the suspect to be arrested and locked up for the offence committed.
