POLICE in the Western Highlands Province have called
on the general public to go to the Mt Hagen General Hospital morgue and
identify a young man who was allegedly run over and killed by a vehicle
at the Queens Park oval in Mt Hagen last Monday.
According to Mt Hagen police reports, the young man,
aged between 16 and 17 years was allegedly run over by a security firm
vehicle (identified) while he was having lunch on the grass at the oval.
Police said the young man was wearing long blue jean
trousers, a black-white stripe tee-shirt and a brown pullover and is
light skinned in colour and has a short hair cut, currently at the Mt
Hagen morgue.
Mt Hagen police said they have confirmed the death
after a young man identified as Benjamin Tengdui, who rushed the
deceased from the accident site to the hospital, reported the matter to
them.
Mr Tengdui during an interview with Post-Courier
last Friday said that he was on his way home after visiting students at
Mt Hagen Tee Primary School at lunch time last Monday, when he saw the
vehicle running over the teenager right in front of him on the lawn.
“The vehicle from a security firm drove off leaving the teenager on the grass,” Mr Tengdui said.
“I recorded the details of the vehicle and quickly carried the young man and rushed him to the hospital.”
Mr Tengdui said he died at the hospital while doctors were trying to attend to his injuries.
“I waited with the body at the emergency ward but
nobody came to claim it so I placed it at the hospital morgue and
reported the incident to the police,” Mr Tengdui stressed.
He called on any relatives of the teenage boy to
contact him on his mobile number: 7188 2754, or Mt Hagen Police traffic
officer Mr Kondo on 7930 9091, for more details of the deceased.
