BY PEARSON KOLO

A total of 58 fruit pickers from Papua New Guinea will fly to farms in Australia to pick fruit under the seasonal workers scheme in November this year.
Seasonal workers many from disadvantaged families have been recruited from remote districts in eight provinces.
The agent responsible for the scheme PNG Grass Roots, said those who have applied are to call into their office in Port Moresby to pick up their passports and prepare for their travel.

PNG Grass Roots co-ordinator Yuwak Tau said all other necessary arrangements are finalised and asked the applicants to check with the office as soon as possible.
“There are positive impacts in the lives of those who have gone to Australia under the scheme and have brought money back,” Mr Tau said.
“The scheme is a success and people are urged to make use of the opportunity.”
The recruits selected come from eight provinces: 22 from Madang, 20 from ESP, three each from Jiwaka and WHP, one from Simbu, two from Morobe , four from Manus and three from West Sepik Province.
Mr Tau urged all applicants to contact PNG Grassroots on telephone 321 3900 or 321 4049 or mobile 72689667.
