A Task Force Team was sent to research business opportunities in the Agro Sector in Papua New Guinea.
The Team consisted of representatives from the Agriculture and Livestock Sectors from Australia.
The
team’s work was to captured in a Four – Year Agreement between the Cairns
Chamber of Commerce and the PNG Government signed recently.
The
Cairns Chamber of Commerce assists local businesses resolve regional
development issues through economic lobbying and representation. Another
key activity of the Chamber includes mentoring businesses and
connecting them to appropriate contacts.
In
this case, the Cairns Chamber of Commerce will introduce the
Agriculture Department to businesses and companies that will enable it
to further develop agro projects.
The
Task Force Team identified projects that have the
potential to develop and export produce overseas. One such is the beef
cattle industry where about 150, 000 cattle are expected to be sent to
Australia.
This
follows the agreements signed between PNG government and Queensland
Premier Campbell Newman during his visit to PNG last month. DAL Acting
