Quality of Asian imports queried

By PEARSON KOLO

A COMMUNITY leader from Western Highlands Province is questioning the National Government of the quality and standard of goods imported into the country especially from Asian countries.
The community leader Solomon Irakap in his late 50s expressed concerns over the very cheap quality of goods like clothes, shoes and tools like knives that are made in the Asian countries and imported into PNG as they last only for a week or two.

“I bought a shoe which looked like a blundstone (stockman) for K120 from an Asian shop in Mt Hagen but the shoe lasted for only a week and was torn into pieces,” Mr Irakap said.
“This is what is happening to all Asian made products and it is really affecting us the people who are paying for these goods.”
Mr Solomon said PNG was rich in minerals and other resources and the people want value for their money but the Asian products were spoiling the people making them look like junks.
“I call on the National Government why it is allowing businesses to import these junk goods or things and allow them to be sold to the people of PNG?” Mr Irakap asked.

“The Government must import quality things from Australia, Europe and America where quality things which will last of years are made.”
Mr Irakap added that the people of PNG are ripped off their money with products that are very low in quality and things that do not last for two weeks.
