PANGIA District where Prime Minister Peter O’Neill comes from is a
model district in the country with well maintained sealed roads and
government services flowing to the people without any hindrance.
The peoples lives have changed drastically as they engage themselves in
income generating activities to sustain their livelihood.
The
Post-Courier met with a community leader, Hellary Waku from Pangia
station, who said Pangia is no longer as it was in the past. “Before it
used to be a two hour drive from Ialibu to Pangia but now it is just 20
minutes and this is how rapidly Pangia is changing.
“Our local MP
and Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, did a good job with our roads which
are all sealed and this has allowed the smooth and rapid flow of basic
services into our area.”
Mr Waku said the people have taken
advantage of the roads and are busy with whatever business activities
they can take part in to earn an income.
“The good roads have
brought the best health and education facilities closer to the people
and they are advancing in their lifestyle,” the community leader
stressed. This is evident in Pangia and the small station is seeing the
construction of many buildings for commercial purposes and also for
office use.
Previously, the people of Pangia used to literally carry the PMV trucks they travel in along the muddy deteriorated road.
But that is something of the past now as they travel in PMV buses to do their business.
