By Mellodie Quicho

The internet revolution in Papua New Guinea is happening right now. Digicel PNG's Chief Operating Officer Julian Orgin, says this is why they are seeing a change in customers and the type of services they want.

Mr. Ogrin says customers have gone from wanting a handset for basic communication and having a torch light or radio, to now wanting more in term of internet access. This has seen Digicel start investing more in the 3-G network in the last three months, particularly in Port Moresby and Lae. In the last 4 to 5 year's Digicel PNG's has spent over one million kina in PNG, most of that funding has gone towards setting up better communication network in the rural areas.

Mr. Ogrin says there are about 2 million Digicel users in PNG, and most are now moving onto to wanting more than just making a call, they want to surf the net as well, with Digicel now embarking on rolling out their 3-G internet service to provinces in Papua New Guinea for their customers to enjoy.
