Don’t confuse your responsibility, Mr Marape

Local in PNG Speaks out !

IN RECENT times I have read with inquisitive interest the Minister for Finance James Marape making media statements about the National Government’s borrowings-loans, Debt to Gross Domestic Product ratio, economic fiscal andmonetary statements and the budgetary planning and allocations.
With due respect to the good Minister for Finance, none of the above issues fall under his Ministerial responsibilities or roles. If Mr Marape’s oversight was unintentional, I refer him to the 2012 National Gazette No. G304 regarding the “Determinations of Titles and Responsibilities of Ministers”.
The government agency and department that are mandated with the above responsibilities are the Department of Treasury and the Bank of Papua New Guinea.
And both these agencies fall under the Minister responsible for Treasury matters that is the Treasurer. The Finance Minister should focus on all matters relating to the functions of Department of Finance, Expenditure of Public monies and maintenance of public accounts.

Don’t confuse
