BILLIONS FOR PNG TOWNS AND CITIES

Papua New Guinea is heading towards a brighter future with a decent budget and many good things to come in the year 2013 and beyond.

Prime Minister Peter O'Neill said this when officiating at the National Urbanization Forum in Port Moresby today.

Mr O'Neill says there will be a real change in the manner in which about five-billion-Kina will be fairly distributed in the 2013 development budget.e to edit.

He says since 1975 when PNG gained self government up till to-date, provinces and the people still lack basic government services.

He says these coupled with the rundown and deteriorating infrastructure.

The Prime Minister says next year onwards, his government will ensure all funds in Waigani are properly managed and utilized for infrastructure and other development in towns and cities throughout the country.

"That is why it is very important that for the first time we must now channel almost five billion kina worth of development budget that has being managed in Waigani and that has not being producing the results for the country are now given to the local authorities, provincial governments, local level governments and the districts,to making sure that we developed those towns and urban cities throughout the country," O'Neil said.
