Namah, Nape miss honours

I REFER to the full page advertorial on your Monday’s paper in regard to the 2012 Queens Birthday Honours List and would like to express concern in regard to awards given to Members of the Parliament.
I noted all MP’s names listed for the awards under different award category and I am shocked to see that MPs who do not deserve the Queens recognition seems to fill out the space while true leaders did not get any calling.
The Speaker of the National Parliament, Jeffrey Nape and Deputy Prime Minister, Belden Namah are two that stands out among the rest. Lest not forget that the Speaker is the exemplary advocate of democratic stability of the Government for the last nine years. And almost 12 months ago, the same speaker was again instrumental in the changing of the government based on peoples cry. These steadfast and unselfish determination of the Speaker transcends beyond his chambers of the National Parliament alone in embracing the democratic interest of the people of PNG. Belden Namah on the other hand has again bolster his position as a true patriotic and nationalist leader by sacrificing his own interest and putting the nations interest ahead when he and the speaker manouvered hand in hand to change the government and ultimately giving the crown to Peter O’Neill.
The two leaders are knights of the people of PNG. They have endured sacrifices that no other Parliamentary Members have experienced in their times. They have a calling larger than the confines of the Parliament House. If it is not good enough, the duos have restored peoples confidence, maintained government stability and restored the dignity of Parliament which constitutes the highest statute of the Constitution and maintaining the spirit of Democracy that we continue to enjoy. To have their names not listed in the 2012 Queens Birthday Honours List especially on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee is ridiculous. In any game, captains are normally called in to get the awards. In the 2012 Birthday Honours List, we see spectators and bench sitters getting called in to get the awards which is quite the opposite. Who is calling the shots here. The 2012 Queens Birthday Honours List seriously questions the integrity and impartiality of the Government House including those who are involved in the selection process.
It is rather a sad fact that the Queens Awards is quickly loosing its value and general respect shared by many Papua New Guineans and Commonwealth partners.
Jeffrey Nape and Belden Namah have shown unparallel devotion and sacrifice to the service of this country and its people. They are living symbol of exemplary valour and sacrifice and to have them missed out on prestigious Queens Awards signals something is definitely wrong.
Queens awards are predetermined and awarded on the tokens of “Valour, Sacrifice and Service”. Did the 2012 Queens Birthday Honours list done in that spirit? Can the Governor General come out clear on the media and state the manner in which Awards were given instead of hiding behind the Queens Crown.
