TOP security personnel in the country have
recognised the election of Peter O’Neill as the Prime Minister of Papua New
Guinea.
The Commander of Papua New Guinea Defence Force Brigadier General Francis Agwi, Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga and National Security Advisory Council (NSAC) Director Ian Jinga have pledged their total support to the O’Neill — Namah Government.
The three top security advisers accompanied by senior members of their organisations met the Prime Minister at the Morauta House and also pledged to get into the process of finalising their security contingency plans.
Later during a media conference at 2:30pm Sunday, Mr O’Neill warned the Somare faction’s purported government to be very careful and refrain from bringing the country into confusion or chaos – what they were doing was a plot to create chaos. “I must warn that we will apply the full force of law and we will move forward - no one is above the country and the elements of those running around in private cars must respect the structure in the public service,” Mr O’Neill said.
The Prime Minister said we need to create a disciplined environment and Sir Michael Somare and his deputy Governor of Southern Highlands Province Anderson Agiru must stop confusing the people of this country.
“Our patience is running out, our people’s patience is running out on Somare and Agiru who are living on false pretence – and their actions are simply a plot to create chaos,” Mr O’Neill said.
He said the recent speculation of new appointments to the public service by the purported government, especially in the PNGDF, police and other Heads of Departments were completely illegal and breach of all processes.
“Rumours of appointments are bordering the national security of our country. We must act responsibly and rumours of changes to police and PNGDF are mere speculations and are untrue,” Mr O’Neill said.
He said the Somare and Agiru’s group were living on false pretence
“How can you appoint a junior officer among the ranks to become the Commissioner of police,” Mr O’Neill asked.
Mr O’Neill assured Commander Agwi, Commissioner Kulunga and Director of NSAC Jinga of his absolute trust and confidence.
“As a government for the people, the O’Neill – Namah Government will continue to maintain confidence in the lives of all citizens,” Mr O’Neill said.
