The Mendi Hospital in Southern Highlands is experiencing an influx of patients from neighbouring provinces.
Despite the influx, the hospital is trying its best to manage the numbers.Speaking to the Mendi Hospital director of corporate services Ban Walom recently, he told PNG Loop that patient numbers continued to grow but with the specialists they had, they were managing it.
“We have people (from) parts of Enga come to the hospital, and parts of Western Highlands. Even the whole of Hela,” said Walom. Doctors at the hospital include an ENT (Ear, Nose, Throat) specialist, a pathologist, a physician, and a surgeon.
Walom said the equipment they have, some recently purchased from Australia, assisted the specialist to attend to cases, both minor and serious.
Mendi Hospital has been operating since the 1970s and is the only referral hospital in the Southern Highlands Province.
